Expat Checklist – First 3 Months

Part 3 of 3

You’ve got a livable place to stay, some familiarity with the surrounding environment; let’s sort-out important obligations that you need to be aware of.

Here’s a quick checklist for your First 3 Months upon arriving in your new city.

Checklist: First 3 Months of Moving Overseas

Tax Obligations

    • Which form would you need, and when is tax filing due?
    • If you are not provided with Tax Orientation or Tax Return support, ask your Payroll if they can guide you with some info.

Insurance

    • Medical Insurance
    • Life and Accident Insurance
    • Travel Insurance

Area Orientation – places and gatherings to know for your long term needs

    • Hospital
    • Post Office
    • Library
    • Club memberships
    • Social events
    • Networking events

Tip #1: Ask other Expats

You might have some opportunities to meet other foreigners living in the city.

Don’t be afraid to ask them some practical questions that you haven’t found answers to.

Chances are, they’ve asked it before you, or are asking themselves the same question too.

Expats are generally eager to exchange information as we all try to figure our new situations together!

Tip #2: People and Places

People lead to Places, &

Places lead to People.

The more you explore, the more you meet, in your first 3 months; the more opportunities you open yourself up for stability and success.

Suggestion

Sassy always has reliable recommendations, and is generally my go-to site even after having been settled-in.
