What do you need to move abroad?

What do you want to ask from your employer to help with your relocation?

I would say, at minimum, you should get visa application support.

It’s absolutely mandatory to get the immigration paperwork right.

My top three recommendations:

1. Temporary Accommodation

It’s very helpful to have a place to stay upon arrival.

Hotel cost is rather expensive to come out of pocket, so this would personally be my first choice if I could only get one Relocation Benefit.

2. One-time Relocation Cash Allowance

Having extra cash is always nice, and it gives you flexibility where to allocate your budget.

3. Transportation

Get your airfare covered. It’s only fair.

Extending the list to top five

4. Tax Services Support

No one wants tax authorities chasing them.

I wouldn’t want to put myself or my employer at risk of non-compliance either.

Especially if you are subject to tax reporting on worldwide income.

5. It Depends!

(A) Shipment (If moving with children)

It’s high cost and high risk to be taking personal responsibility for sea shipment.

It would be less burden to have professional help.

(B) Destination Services (If moving without children)

It’s a nice personal touch to have someone take you around and familiarize you with the new city, especially if you don’t know anybody there.
